Aquarian Hero

It seems fitting that war hero Louis Zamperini (1917-2014) was born under the water sign of Aquarius.  Laura Hillenbrand wrote Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption about Zamerini’s life.  Her book, one of the longest-running New York Times bestsellers of all time, was adapted into a 2014 film called Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie.

Eddie Van Halen, born in the Netherlands in 1955, is turning 59 this month.  Allmusic describes the rocker: “Second to only Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen was undoubtedly one of the most influential, original, and talented rock guitarists of the 20th century.”  Check out his interview with Smithsonian magazine here.

etta james aquariusAn Unforgettable Songstress

Etta James (1938-2012) had one of the most recognizable voices in jazz and blues music.  The singer, who released the hits “At Last,” “I’d Rather Go Blind” and “Something’s Got a Hold on Me,” had a rocky career that spanned many decades.  She bridged the gap between rhythm and blues and rock and roll, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Grammy Hall of Fame twice—in both 1999 and 2008.
